Alachua has grown fast, from the historic Main Street district to Turkey Creek and the newer subdivisions feeding the Progress District workforce. Fast growth means a mix of housing stock: charming older homes near downtown with original piping, 1980s and 90s construction that may still carry polybutylene supply lines, and new builds whose builder-grade fixtures and water heaters hit their first failures right around year eight.
